Now that tax season is wrapping up, I wanted to share a few key updates and statistics from our office on the progress of our modernization efforts.
➡️ One important improvement this tax season was the new option to pay by eCheck. This option helps make the process more efficient, more secure, and faster for Marylanders receiving refunds or making payments. Paper checks can take up to 25 days to process, while electronic payments are typically completed in just 3 to 7 business days. That means Marylanders get their money faster, with fewer delays and less risk when mailing sensitive financial information.
➡️ Last year, we rolled out MyCOMConnect to help Marylanders get answers without needing to wait on the phone by sending in their questions and documents in a secure manner, and we created the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate to help us improve our system and be more responsive to Marylanders’ needs.
Here is where we stand after this year’s tax season.
- More than 2.9 million individual tax returns processed
- Over $474.3 million delivered in Earned Income Tax Credits and refunds
- More than 42,000 Marylanders assisted by our Branch Operations team
We are focused on practical improvements like this—making the system work better, reducing delays, and returning money to Marylanders as quickly and safely as possible.
This has been a busy year for our team, and while challenges remain, I’m proud of the work being done across the agency to support these modernization efforts. I also want to thank you for your critical involvement this tax season. By using these new systems, you are helping us build a more efficient government, and your tax dollars continue to fund our schools, bridges, roads, and many other essential services.
Thank you for being part of our work to build a more equitable and resilient Maryland.
My best,

(She, Her, Hers)
