Republican gubernatorial candidate Erin Stewart is on the ropes. According to the Hartford Courant, she used public funds to purchase items such as diapers, club memberships, birthday dinners etc. while she was the Mayor of New Britian. She issued a response stating:
“The timing of these attacks is no coincidence – the moment public polling showed Ned Lamont under 50%, the Democratic machine, their allies in New Britian City Hall, and our Republican opponents all went into hyperdrive. Here are the facts: Expenditures by the Mayor’s Office were budgeted for, submitted, and subject to annual audit during my twelve years delivering results in a deep blue city, going from a $30 million deficit to a $34 million surplus.”

But she did not deny the Courant’s accusations. And prediction markets quickly flipped from favoring Stewart to be the Republican nominee to favor her main opponent, Ryan Fazio.

But does anyone in their right mind think that the Democrats running cities such as Waterbury, Bridgeport and Hartford aren’t doing the same thing? Are we soon going to see a report in the Hartford Courant going over the personal expenses of the officials in these cities? If anyone thinks so, please send me a check for $500 and I will send you the title to the Verrazano Bridge.
Governor Ned Lamont – the great champion of the environment and fearless fighter against climate change - chopped down two hundred trees near his sumptuous Greenwich abode to get a better view of a pond. What happened to him? Absolutely nothing. And then a no bid contract for COVID [ [link removed] ] tests was rewarded to SEMA, a company in which Lamont’s wife has partial ownership. What does the media and Attorney General Tong say? Nothing to see here.
And Democratic corruption is so common that Connecticut is now call Corrupticut with AG Tong ignoring blatant fraud while continuous filing frivolous lawsuits against the Trump administration to mollify bored Trump-hating former hippies. Meanwhile:
Wanda Geter-Pataky and her cohorts were caught on video committing ballot fraud in Bridgeport (Why am I not surprised?) with absentee ballots. They are about to get a slap on the wrist. In fact, the Democratic response to this was to simply pass a law making absentee ballot fraud legal [ [link removed] ].
State Senator McCrory of Hartford (another paragon of good government) has been implicated in $300,000 of wired fraud through a “non profit” organization he controls, The Blue Hills Civic Association. The FBI is investigating. Don’t hold your breath. But Governor Lamont swung the hatchet and demanded McCrory give up his leadership position in the Senate. Such suffering.
Terrence Cheng, former Chancellor of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities managed to get himself a no-work job as a “special adviser” in which in pulled in $442,000 a year. AG Tong will be right on this no doubt.
Diedre Gifford who ran the Office of Healthcare Strategy (I have no idea what this is, but I am sure it pays well) covered up Medicaid fraud [ [link removed] ] and had to resign. Charges? Nah.
I could go on but unfortunately my Word program does not have enough gigabytes to handle the volume.
But I should mention what happened to former Governor John Rowland. He was found guilty of having a state contractor do $8,000 work on his house for no charge. The result, eight months in jail. Once out, he was caught receiving money under the table to help a Congressional candidate. The result, thirty more months [ [link removed] ] in jail.
But Rowland’s punishment far exceeded what was fair for his crimes, because his real crime was being a successful Republican.
And that is Erin Stewart’s real crime. This moderate Republican could have returned the billionaire Lamont (funny how the Democrats and media never point this out) to his Greenwich abode where he could have spent quality time mastering the nuances of the various vintages of Chateau Lafite Rothschild. He may have even been able to figure out that 2017 was a bad year.
But Stewart is finding out what happens when the powers-that-be and their media toadies are challenged in the Peoples Republic of Corrupticut.
