The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) praises the U.S. Census Bureau for promptly ending the Census Bureau's just announced partnership with the extremist radical Muslim group CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations).
When the partnership was announced, ZOA proclaimed that CAIR was an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case, involved in funneling money to Hamas, and is a vicious antisemitic hate group. It would have been wrong and very inappropriate for the U.S. Census Bureau to formally partner with CAIR or any other group with terror connections, on any matter.
After the CAIR-U.S. Census partnership was announced, the press also quoted ZOA National President Morton Klein's previous statements that: “CAIR has a long history of being a vicious antisemitic Israel-hating group. They irrationally condemn the Jewish state, but never condemn the murderous actions of Hamas or Syria, or the Palestinian dictator and terrorist Abbas. By calling for the genocide of Israel, they join the moral horrors of the Nazis and Stalin, without their power, thank G-d.”
ZOA pointed out that if the U.S. Census Bureau is going to partner with a Muslim group, it should partner with a group that promotes American democratic ideals, such as Dr. Zuhdi Jasser's American-Islamic Forum for Democracy.
ZOA also raised First Amendment separation of church and state issues. CAIR had announced that its Census Bureau partnership would include working with local Islamic centers. Prior Census Bureau faith campaigns directed at the Muslim community incorporated Quranic verses. The U.S. Government should not be involved in disseminating religious verses.
