Busy off season!
Legislative lookback, potluck, county convention and more!
Fellow Democrats,
Thank you.
This off season was one for the books! Incredibly busy, and so useful!
With the immense help of Andree Dean and Maggie Davis, our potluck on April 18th had great speakers, and incredible food brought by so many! We had a great food donation drive for One22 ([link removed]) as well, collecting more than 115 lbs of food and with over 70 attendees, this event was highly successful. Thank you to all those who attended.
Some of our attendees and speakers were able to engage with each other, in respectful and meaningful manners, such as our Mayor Arne Jorgensen and our Sheriff, Matt Carr, who were able to discuss the ongoing immigration and ICE holds discussion ([link removed]) .
Please join us in giving a huge round of (virtual) applause to Andree Dean, Maggie Davis and Annette Osnos, along with the rest of the Teton Dems executive committee, whom, all together, made this delicious and fun event happen successfully. And thank you to everyone who brought all the delicious food!
Legislative Lookback
This sessions Legislative Lookback, in conjunction with ShelterJH ([link removed]) , brought together several of our Representatives in Cheyenne. Great questions were asked, and even better discussions followed. As this was a non-partisan event, it was great to see members of all parties and schools of thought present, this was much appreciated. Discussions and questions were wide ranging, from housing issues to EV viability, with book banning and the Checkgate controversy as well.
On the housing front, multiple discussions were had, centered around mitigation issues and the role of Local vs. State government on the concern of control of housing rules and regulations.
On book banning, there was heavy pushback by all legislators, arguing that is neither beneficial nor necessary.
The Teton Dems ([link removed]) asked our representatives what their thoughts were about wind and other renewable energy sources, to which all said it should be discussed, and Representative Liz Storer was in favor of it, arguing that the State should be supporting this, and potentially other renewable energy initiatives.
Thank you too everyone who came to this event, and great thanks to our Legislators for being present and answering all the questions!
County Convention and platform discussion
On Saturday May 2nd, the Teton County Dems got together to discuss and update our platform. This document, soon to be added to our new and rejuvenated website, is a roadmap to the major values that guide our lifestyle and help us create a better Town of Jackson and Teton County.
With a great showing by dedicated members, many thoughts and ideas were shared. Our platform will ultimately be shared with the State Democratic party at the June 6th convention, and parts of it may be incorporated into the larger Wyoming State Democratic Party platform.
Several members were nominated to be delegates at the State Democratic Party Convention. Chairwoman Osnos was given power to nominate anyone else interested in being a delegate as well. If you are interested in being a delegate at the State convention, on June 6th and 7th, please reach out to us! Any registered Democrat can be nominated. This is a great opportunity to make your voice heard, meet other Wyoming Democrats, to share ideas, and to make a difference in Wyoming politics.
Thank you to our Chair Annette Osnos for doing the tough leg work for this Convention, (and for the bagels and coffee!) and to Representative Mike Yin for chairing and leading the platform discussion.
Get involved! We need your help! We need motivated members to help us tackle the many pressing issues facing our State. From wildlife to housing, gender discussions to book banning, we are tackling it all. Email ([link removed]) or call us at (307) 264-0240.
