The summit offers the region’s business leaders the opportunity to hear from our local elected leaders about the economic climate in the region, initiatives they have completed or are undertaking to foster economic growth, and thoughts on how each jurisdiction can work together to improve our regional economy. The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is hosting this summit with Grand Sponsor, Dominion Energy, premier partner, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and co-hosts, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission. Registration: Members - $29 Prospective Members - $49 REGISTER Board of Directors Call for Nominations The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is calling for nominations to our Board of Directors. We are looking for enthusiastic, driven leaders that are passionate about the Chamber and want to help us expand membership and achieve our mission. To be considered for Board service, a Chamber member must be in good standing and be able to fulfill the following responsibilities: Prepare for and attend Board Meetings. Board members are expected to review the meeting packets in advance and attend regularly scheduled Board meetings. Participate in Chamber Events and Activities. Board members are expected to demonstrate leadership and participate in events and other activities offered by the Chamber. In addition, Directors should encourage and assist members to do the same. Support the Chamber Financially. In addition to their membership dues, Directors will pay an annual assessment set at $490 for 2020. Beyond this assessment, Directors should consider the Chamber as a focused recipient of community engagement resources from their organization. Encourage others to join the Chamber. The foundation of the Chamber is a stable and growing membership. Directors should be champions of the Chamber and actively encouraging others to join. View the full list of Board expectations. For any member wishing to nominate another member, member approval is requested. Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee Wednesday, August 19 | 9:00-10:30 a.m. Virtual Meeting The Government Affairs & Economic Development Committee welcomes Arlington County Board member Takis Karantonis at its meeting on Wednesday, August 19. Takis Karantonis joined the County Board in July after winning a special election to fill out the term for the seat left vacant by Erik Gutshall’s tragic passing. Members will have the opportunity to get to know him and hear about his experience joining the Board and his thoughts on County policy. Takis also looks forward to hearing members’ questions and feedback on issues facing Arlington. This virtual meeting is restricted to members of the Chamber. [email protected] Recent Advocacy: Chamber Expresses Concerns Regarding the New Arlington County Sidewalk Ordinance On August 11, The Chamber sent a letter to the County Board expressing concerns regarding the new Arlington County Ordinance Requiring Physical Distancing on Public Sidewalks. The hastily developed ordinance has led to confusion, presents enforcement challenges, and has left the community unclear on how it will be applied. Enforcement zones still have not been announced – even with delayed enforcement to allow for public education.
