Tomorrow night, Democrats from across Connecticut's Fourth District will gather in Norwalk to choose their nominee for Congress. I’ve been speaking with delegates from Greenwich to Oxford, and I look forward to accepting their nomination. Earning your trust and support is the honor of a lifetime, and I’m excited about the work that lies ahead.

As you know, we are living through an extraordinary moment in the history of our congress and our nation. Some of our most fundamental values – peace, decency, integrity, and the rule of law – are being undermined, and eviscerated by President Trump and his allies on Capitol Hill.

For the last four years, my colleagues and I have been committed to giving voice to the millions of Americans who disagree with President Trump’s agenda. We’ve spoken loudly and clearly about the rising costs that families face as a result of needless war and tariffs. We’ve pointed out corruption, defended the right to vote, and held ICE accountable for a lawless deportation crackdown.

We’ve done all this from the minority, outnumbered in both the House and the Senate. Wherever we’re able, we throw sand into the gears of MAGA’s machinery and blunt the impact of Trump’s harm to working families. When we’ve exhausted all other options, we forcefully articulate an alternative vision for a government that sides with small businesses instead of billionaires.

This November, Democrats have an opportunity to win back a majority in the House and Senate. By flipping just a handful of seats, we can reinstate checks and balances, hold Trump’s appointees accountable, and get back into the business of enacting legislation. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished in the minority, but it pales in comparison to what we can do in the majority.
