Mercy Corps is proud to introduce Tjada D’Oyen McKenna
as our new Chief Executive Officer.

I am very proud and excited to introduce Tjada D’Oyen McKenna as Mercy Corps’ new Chief Executive Officer.

Tjada D’Oyen McKenna
Tjada D’Oyen McKenna takes the helm at Mercy Corps this October.

Tjada joins us with a wealth of executive experience in humanitarian relief and international development, as well as leadership roles in the private sector and U.S. government. A champion for social justice with a passion for tackling global hunger, Tjada currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for CARE, where she oversees the organization’s programming and global operations.

Prior to CARE, Tjada was the Chief Operating Officer at Habitat for Humanity International. She also spent more than a decade in roles with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the U.S. government, specializing in food security and working to end world hunger. She began her career in the corporate sector in various roles at McKinsey & Company, American Express and GE. She earned a B.A. from Harvard College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and has served on both national and local non-profit boards.

Tjada’s appointment follows a nearly eight-month global search, led by our Board Directors Lucy Lee Helm and Kevin Ryan, which began with extensive listening tours with Mercy Corps teams around the world. The position attracted tremendous interest and our selection committee spent many hours with the top candidates, narrowing from a pool of over 500 applicants.

From the beginning, Tjada’s exceptional leadership qualities were evident in our conversations with her. I am thrilled to see Tjada champion Mercy Corps’ mission around the world, and bring her vision as well as her deep operational and technical experience to our work. I know she will reflect and embody our organizational values and lead our global team with empathy, passion and expertise.

Tjada, her husband Joe and two young sons are currently based in Atlanta, Georgia. She will start her role with Mercy Corps on October 15, 2020. I will continue in my role as Interim Chief Executive Officer until then, and will help support Tjada as she joins Mercy Corps.

We’re excited to welcome Tjada and look forward to future opportunities for you to get to know her better. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and for everything you do in support of our common goal of a more secure, productive and just world.

Sincerely,

Beth deHamel

Interim Chief Executive Officer, Mercy Corps
