When I first ran for Congress, I was a single mom with three young kids. A
lot of people asked me how I was going to do it.

And honestly, sometimes I wondered: Would they ask a man that question?

But I knew most people meant well. They understood something real: Moms
like me were already exhausted from raising kids, working hard, and trying
to make ends meet. So how could someone possibly add running for Congress
on top of all that?

The truth is—that’s exactly why I decided to run.

I wanted to bring the experiences of working parents and struggling
families with me to Washington. And when I got there, I became the first
single mom of school-aged kids ever elected to Congress.

I used that experience to fight for issues too many politicians overlook,
like affordable child care, lower costs, and fighting for working
families.

And yet, even now, one of my opponents [ [link removed] ]questioned my parenting on the
debate stage this week. It’s disappointing, but it’s also a reminder of
the double standards moms in leadership still face every day.

Now, I’m running to be California’s next governor because families are
still being squeezed every single day. And I know firsthand what it feels
like to juggle bills, responsibilities, and the pressure of trying to hold
everything together.

So in honor of Mother’s Day, I’m asking: [ [link removed] ]Can you chip in a few bucks to
help power this campaign? Every donation helps us reach more voters and
fight for California families.
