Hurricane Dorian is now expected to impact Florida on the early morning of Tuesday as a category 4 hurricane.

All of Florida will feel the impact of this storm, and we can never reiterate enough that ALL FLORIDIANS are within the cone of uncertainty for a direct impact. Now is the time to prepare.

My family lost a roof to Hurricane Charley in 2004, Irma passed over my house, and I've had my fair share of near misses too. As someone who has spent a lifetime dodging hurricanes here, I offer these tips:

*
Remember,
the
"cone
of
uncertainty"
above
is
for
the
CENTER
of
the
storm
but
the
area
affected
will
be
MUCH
LARGER.
Also,
don't
forget
that
also
means
that
our
entire
state
is
still
vulnerable
for
a
direct
impact.
Two
years
ago,
Irma
was
supposed
to
hit
the
East
Coast
too,
then
it
slammed
into
Naples
on
the
West
Coast.
My
point,
prepare
for
the
worst
and
hope
for
the
best.

*
Be
neighborly!
The
cleanup
after
the
storm
and/or
days
without
power
can
be
brutal,
businesses
suffer
from
downtime
and
damage,
and
we
all
become
reliant
on
the
generosity
of
our
neighbor
with
a
generator
and
pickup.
If
you're
fortunate,
help;
if
you
don't
truly
need
help,
then
let
the
first
responders,
volunteers,
and
clean-up
crews
focus
on
those
who
do.
It's
likely
that
our
East
Coast
friends
feel
the
brunt
of
this
one;
be
prepared
to
donate
your
unused
hurricane
supplies
quickly
after
the
storm
so
they
can
get
to
the
people
who
need
them
most.

*
Heed
the
warnings,
stay
informed,
and
be
prepared.
We
will
get
through
this,
together.
