SoCal Black leaders are slamming SB 1120, a Sacramento scheme to crush California’s single-family streets to jam in four pricey and unaffordable McMansions, or four market-rate homes, where one house stands now.
Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager-Dove, L.A. City Councilmember Herb Wesson and ex-Councilmember Jan Perry, teleconferencing with 350 people, slammed SB 1120 by Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins and state Sen. Scott Wiener (one is MARRIED to a developer, the other takes more developer money than ANY legislator).
On Tuesday Aug. 18 at 9:30, join the battle! Help stop a radical experiment on 7.4 million homeowners of every income level. Tell the state Assembly Appropriations Committee to stop SB 1120 from heading to a late August “floor vote” by 80 Assemblymembers.
GO HERE to see why you must testify on Tuesday! And HERE for how to call-in at 9:30 am!
Let’s be clear: Black leaders of South LA hosted this teleconference, and dozens called the Atkins-Wiener SB 1120 “insulting,” “racist,” “outrageous!” Go HERE to learn more from the teleconference.
L.A. City Councilmember Paul Koretz, who led LA’s fight to stop the hated Wiener bill, SB 50, told the crowd that its lookalike, SB 1120, is a thoughtless “safety threat” lacking hillside control, slide control or basics of safe development.
The bill is deaf to the pandemic. It rewards speculators to buy and destroy solid homes, targeting South L.A., East L.A., and dozens of unsuspecting communities from San Diego to Contra Costa County.

Livable California is a non-profit statewide group of community leaders, activists and local elected officials. We believe in local answers to the housing affordability crisis. Our robust fight requires trips to Sacramento & a lobbyist going toe-to-toe with power. Please donate generously to LivableCalifornia.org here.
