Republicans have gerrymandered these maps beyond recognition to make people of color the minority in every congressional district. Louisiana is so diverse that if the lines were drawn fairly, MAGA would lose.
A fair map would keep communities together. New Orleans would be New Orleans. The Northshore would be the Northshore. The River Parishes would stay together, as would Acadiana and the bayous.
It takes a segregationist’s precision to draw maps that make nonwhite people the minority in every single congressional district of roughly 775,000 people.
But Republicans are trying exactly that, while insisting through gritted teeth that this is not about race.
After winning a Supreme Court ruling against what they call too much consideration of race, they are now redrawing as many maps as they can to make sure white voters remain the majority in every district across red states.
Louisiana is on the front line of the fascist takeover of America.
