Dear Neighbors,

We have 10 days left to complete our work at the Minnesota Legislature this year. We’ve been spending long days on the House Floor, passing bipartisan bills. Much of this weekend will be dedicated to negotiations between the House and Senate, finalizing legislation that can then be sent to Governor Walz.

By nature of the tie in the House, and the narrow party divide in the Senate, the bills we are passing are compromises. I can say that many of these pieces of legislation would look very different were they my ideal version and were the House DFL to have just "one more vote".

Upcoming Town Hall

I’ll join my districtmates Rep. Emma Greenman and Sen. Zaynab Mohamed on Wednesday, May 27 at 6pm for a town hall. We’ll have a lot to recap about what happened during the 2026 session and what we need to do to make progress in 2027. We’ll also take your questions and input. Be sure to RSVP for the location here! Housing Bill Headed to Conference Committee

The Housing Bill [ [link removed] ] passed the House and the final version is in negotiation with the Senate. The bill, while staying budget-neutral, would expand affordable housing units in our state. It also contains some important rental assistance measures that are needed across the state. I am hopeful that this legislation will be fully agreed to soon, so we can get it to the Governor’s desk!

Senate Pass Gun Violence Prevention Legislation

The Minnesota Senate passed major gun violence prevention legislation this week, less than a year after the Annunciation mass shooting that took the lives of two children and injured 28 others. This is such an important direct action that we need, and our community has demanded. There is no such thing as powerlessness to prevent gun violence, it’s time to confront it head on. This bill only needs a single GOP vote to pass in the House.

It’s way past time that we get this done and I will do everything I can to pass it here in the House. If not this year, then next.

House Passes Psilocybin Treatment Program

Yesterday, the House passed an amendment to establish a psilocybin therapeutic use program in Minnesota. Once law, the program will be administered by the Office of Cannabis Management. Under this program, patients who are age 21 or older, have a qualifying medical condition, and have been screened for contraindications are permitted to register in the program. Registered patients and registered facilitators will be permitted to obtain psilocybin from registered suppliers. Registered patients may use psilocybin only in administration sessions at which a registered facilitator is physically present. 

Psylocybin has shown promising medicinal benefits, and I’m happy that our state is ready to acknowledge and promote that fact! Hopefully this can be one more tool that helps people grow and heal from trauma.
