With the Voting Rights Act gutted by the recent Supreme Court decision, Republican-run states are rushing to redraw maps to eliminate Black representatives. And unfortunately, Louisiana is no stranger to racist voter suppression, so I am sad to say that the news I share comes as no surprise.
First, they came for Calvin Duncan and moved to eliminate his clerk of court seat; and now they are coming for the state’s only two majority-minority districts represented by two Black men in Congress. And who are they coming for next? Black voters.
Their plan is to gerrymander this state back to the Reign of Terror.
Today, I woke up feeling like we are fighting the same fight my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents fought, and it is this fight that makes America great. America was made great by the people who resisted, persisted, and fought for their freedom and right to a life of dignity.
We are going to fight like hell to make sure that these people who want to rig elections, gerrymander maps, take away elected black men's seats, and dilute black votes know that their time is up, and we are not going back.
I’m Jamie Davis, and I'm the Louisiana farmer and Democrat running to unseat MAGA Senator Bill Cassidy.
If you see the gravity of this historical moment we are living in, I'm asking you to give what you can so that we make sure this reign of terror comes to an end. There have been many times when the good people of this country had to send people and resources to those fighting the good fight in Louisiana. Today is one of those days.
