Last month, we asked JanePAC supporters all across the country a question: Do you support lawsuits as a way to hold fossil fuel companies accountable for the harm they’ve caused?

The answer was a resounding YES. But let’s dive deeper into the findings:

1. People want to use the courts to pursue accountability. Over 96% of you told us that you supported using lawsuits as a way of holding fossil fuel corporations accountable. The rule of law still matters — regardless of what Donald Trump and his corporate cronies say or do.

2. Elected officials should go after the perpetrators of the climate crisis. Lawsuits don’t just happen. If we want to use the courts to hold Big Oil to account, we need elected officials at the state and local level who are willing to actively pursue climate justice. (This is something over 97% of survey respondents agreed on!)

3. Everyday Americans shouldn’t be saddled with the cost of the climate crisis. Over 94% of you agreed: Oily corporations knew what their products would do to our planet, and they lied to us about it. They are the ones who should be required to bear the costs of climate-related disasters like wildfires, floods, and extreme storms — not everyday Americans.

John, we gather this feedback from time to time because we use it to directly shape our roadmap for the year ahead. Now that we’ve heard opinions from folks in Philadelphia and all over, we’re gearing up to endorse new climate champions, mobilize voters in key races, and build the strongest possible defense against Donald Trump’s authoritarian agenda.
