This week Governor Josh Green appeared on KITV Island News to discuss the results of this year’s legislative session — including protecting tax cuts for the middle class, supporting the film industry in Hawaii, and funding projects under the historic Green Fee.

“I’m really proud of the legislature,” Governor Green said in the interview on Monday. “I thank them for protecting the largest middle class tax break in history. They protected that, so special kudos… amazing work. They preserved the tax breaks for the middle class… that’s great because that’s affordability for our state.”

Governor Green also praised the legislature for passing tax credits to support the local film industry.

"We want to enhance film here because that’s going to be a new part of our economy,” Josh said. “By expanding the tax credit there and bringing films into Hawaii, we get local workers.”

Finally, Josh thanked the legislature for appropriating $129 million to fund environmental and climate-related projects under the Green Fee.

“The Green Fee is the historic piece of legislation we passed," Josh said, “…that goes towards protecting us against wildfires, shoreline erosion, all the things that climate change does… That’s going to protect our environment."

In his first term as governor, Josh delivered the biggest tax cut for the middle class in Hawaii state history, doubled the earned income tax credit and the food tax credit, and increased the child and dependent care credit — making Hawaii more affordable for every family, without cutting the services people depend on.
