For nearly a century, federal law has prohibited the unregulated shipment of handguns through the United States Postal Service to protect public safety.
But the Trump administration has decided they don’t think the law should apply anymore — and then directed USPS to make up their own policy to allow anyone to mail handguns across and within state lines, without the involvement of a firearm dealer.
Once again, the Trump administration is disregarding the safety of the people it is sworn to serve. We cannot and will not ignore the dangerous consequences of this proposed rule that puts our communities at risk.
It’s reckless and illegal – and we’re fighting back. Will you chip in to help power this work? [[link removed]]

This administration cannot just unilaterally tell the USPS to violate a valid federal law — so I co-led a coalition of 22 attorneys general in submitting a formal comment letter making clear that the proposed new rule is unlawful and would make our communities less safe.
Under the Trump administration’s preferred policy, people who are legally prohibited from owning a firearm — like felons and domestic abusers — could have a handgun shipped directly through the mail, bypassing safeguards that exist to keep weapons out of dangerous hands.
And at a time when budgets are already under pressure, this rule would make it even harder and more expensive for law enforcement to trace illegal firearms and solve gun crimes.
The Trump administration has made clear it will dismantle gun safety laws piece by piece if no one pushes back. We are pushing back — and we need your support to keep doing it.

This fight is ongoing, and I’ll be sure to keep you updated every step of the way. But until then, thank you for standing up for the rule of law, and helping keep our communities safe.
