Hi John,
One time for the fits at last night’s Met Gala. 👏🏾 From our Queen Bey and Blue Ivy Carter to Venus Williams and our fabulous Co-Chair Janelle Monae, the girls did exactly what needed to be done.
The looks? The moments? Flawless! However, I couldn’t help but think about something else. The Met Gala isn’t just about fashion — it’s about access. Every detail is intentional, from who gets invited to who gets photographed to who gets seated next to who. None of this is random.
And that’s what makes it so interesting — because in a lot of ways, access to power in this country can feel just as curated. Most of us will never see the inside of the Met Gala, and some of us are even protesting right outside the entrance. For many people, politics feels the same way. They feel like decisions are made in rooms they’re not in. Just take a look at Gen Z: 44% of Gen Z [[link removed]] aren’t sure or feel like their voices matter. That’s where disengagement starts.
But here’s the difference. The Met Gala is exclusive by design, democracy isn’t supposed to be. Elections are one of the moments where every American should have a spot on the guest list. No invite needed, just your voice and a vote.
Right now, decisions are being made about the cost of living, education, healthcare — and the future we are all stepping into. If we are being real, nothing feels entirely normal. Moments like the Met Gala give us something to talk about — but they also sit alongside a growing skepticism about our role in shaping what comes next.
Our votes have always been a form of resistance, rooted in the belief that our voice matters. Because while it may not always feel like it, the decisions shaping our daily lives aren’t happening somewhere far removed from us. They’re happening in our neighborhoods, in our cities, in rooms that impact what we can afford, how we live, and so much more.
With more than 110,000 elections taking place across the country, the opportunity to be part of those decisions is now. So consider this your invitation, and make sure you’re registered and ready to vote at WhenWeAllVote.org [[link removed]].
