Ilhan Omar: 'The U.S. and Gulf allies could help end Sudan's war, but instead we enable weapons to reach the RSF, prolonging immense suffering. We can't be credible peacemakers while fueling conflict.'
Friend, in just the last twenty years, millions of people around the world have suffered either from direct US military intervention or indirect support for war crimes and massacres.
Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, Venezuela and now Iran have all experienced this destabilization and devastation, financed by American taxpayers — many of whom already struggle to make ends meet and want to see that money spent here at home.
If we truly believe in putting human rights at the center of our foreign policy we cannot enable human rights abuses on our dime.
Democrats have a moral obligation to not only oppose needless, endless wars abroad, but end our longstanding policies that enable bad actors with no questions asked. That is the only path towards peace in a world where America plays the role of global superpower.
In solidarity,
Ilhan Omar
