Dear John,

ADL’s latest Audit of Antisemitic Incidents has just been released. It reveals something appalling: Physical antisemitic assaults and assaults involving a deadly weapon have reached levels unmatched in any year since ADL began tracking in 1979. Three people were murdered in U.S. antisemitic attacks this past year. This is a shocking reminder of how the threat landscape has worsened for Jews in the United States.
Overall, the number of antisemitic incidents in 2025 decreased by 33% from 2024, but remains far higher than the average in years prior to the 10/7 Hamas massacre. This ‘new normal’ is anything but: Jews in the U.S. simply do not feel safe. They continue to be harassed, assaulted and targeted for who they are on an average of 17 times per day.

Among the key findings in this year’s Audit:
- There were 203 violent assaults (a 4% increase) targeting at least 300 victims. Incidents of assault involving a deadly weapon increased by 39%. Orthodox Jews were targeted in 38% of these incidents.
- Antisemitic incidents occurred in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The states with the highest levels of incidents were New York, California and New Jersey.
- Incidents on campus saw the steepest decline; the 583 recorded antisemitic incidents are 66% lower than in 2024, though they remain 3x higher than before 10/7.
In the face of these challenges, ADL is working tirelessly to protect the Jewish community, doubling down on the work we’ve done for decades, launching new efforts and creating new tools for a community under attack, whether it’s our ADL Center on Extremism Threat Monitoring Unit, which has leveraged proprietary technology and expert analysis to identify and report more than 300 potential threats including planned mass casualty attacks, or our legal support for Jewish students, which has handled more than 650 requests for assistance.
Every antisemitic incident affects a real person: a family threatened at their synagogue, a rabbi attacked on the street, a student harassed on campus. For example, in a threatening incident in Massachusetts, someone heaved a brick that said “Free Palestine” through the window of a kosher grocery store.
ADL New England responded immediately by providing onsite support at the store, reaching out directly to the local Orthodox community and offering resources and reassurance. ADL encouraged shopping at the store and rallying around the business. Additionally, hundreds of people in the community signed on to an ADL digital campaign, adding their names in a show of unity. Overall, ADL New England helped transform a moment of fear and vandalism into one of resilience and allyship.
As the Audit shows, these incidents are pervasive across the country, from that Massachusetts grocery store to communities in every state.
Antisemitism takes many forms, and ADL fights them all.
We Need Your Help!
Our sacred spaces where we pray, celebrate and find community have become targets. The bipartisan SACRED Act would create a buffer zone around houses of worship, shielding worshippers from intimidation and harassment while protecting free speech and peaceful protest.
