What happens when a few homeschool families decide to do some cooperative learning by getting together in one location, someone's home? If you're in Shelby County, Tennessee, the government makes life quite difficult.

The good news is that Anchor Academy there has prevailed over the bureaucrats who cited the coop for allegedly operating as a "traditional school" and thereby breaking the rules.

After nine months of litigation, the academy has [regained its freedom.]([link removed])

Said founding mom Mikki Weddle: "On Tuesday, April 21, the prosecuting attorney presented his case, focusing on zoning issues related to daycare and school occupancy laws. Several county zoning officials testified that we had more than the allowed seven children on the property."

And, perhaps the "worst" of it … "One neighbor also testified that the sound of children singing was too much for him."

On April 29, Mikki announced that the trial judge had ruled in favor of Anchor Academy, partly due to the protections of a pro-homeschool bill passed last year in the state.

Remarked, Mikki, "God is good, and all praise belongs to Him!" Indeed.

**BY JOVE, THEY'RE COMING HOME**

Decades ago, WND Founder Joseph Farah deftly applied the term "dropout" to homeschool kids, urging parents to create more dropouts by pulling their children out of government schools and educating them at home.

Now we find that across the pond, in Great Britain, the number of "dropouts" is surging. Recent data show there's been [a 55% increase]([link removed]) in the number of student "deregistrations," i.e., escapees from the system, from 2022 to 2025.

One report noted that while some families report positive outcomes to homeschooling, "critics warn of social isolation risks and call for reforms" – code-speak for heightening the kind of overreach experienced in Tennessee (see above).

**DISTURBED IN THE BADGER STATE**

Many families report acceptable results from public school … at least if your teacher isn't pining for the assassination of the president.

No such luck for students at Kaukauna High School in Wisconsin, however, as instructor Patrick Meyer [posted an unhinged rant]([link removed]) on X, lamenting the failed assassination attempt in D.C. days earlier:

"I am not impressed with recent presidential assassins. It's [bleeping] embarrassing. Booth, Guiteau, Czolgosz, Oswald must all be spinning in their graves! MAGAA (make Americans great assassins again)! Sad!"

After the incident, the Kaukauna Area School District issued a statement confirming Meyer has been placed on administrative leave while they "review the matter in accordance with its policies and procedures."

Let's hope such violent rhetoric is NOT in accordance with its policies.

**ARE YOUR KIDS GHOSTING YOU? YOU'RE NOT ALONE**

They're calling it "cut off culture." No, not as in the jeans I cut off to make shorts, but the growing and tragic trend of people deciding to "cut off" family members from their lives, most commonly grown children from their parents.

Nearly two in five Americans – 38% – say they [have gone "no contact"]([link removed]) with a friend or family member in the past year, according to a survey of 2,000 adults conducted in March by Talker Research for the therapy platform Talkspace.

"These results suggest that avoiding relationship challenges is becoming more common," Dr. Nikole Benders-Hadi, chief medical officer at Talkspace, said in a statement.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the data show that the younger generations are more likely to decide mom or dad is "toxic" and cut them off. Here's the breakdown: 60% of Gen Z respondents had gone "no contact" with someone, compared to 50% of millennials, 38% of Gen X and 20% of baby boomers.

Said one psychotherapist of the shunners: "They are often conflict-avoidant, which prevents them from trying to meaningfully work through their issues with their parents."

If she's still with us, pick up the phone and call your "toxic" mom. Chances are you are just as toxic as she is.

**IN DEFENSE OF TITLE IX**

Nearly every week this newsletter shares developments having to do with government schools keeping secrets from parents – most notably information about so-called gender transitions encouraged by school personnel.

The Supreme Court recently has decided, twice, not to take up cases brought by betrayed parents.

In a related development, the Trump administration's Civil Rights Division has announced a [federal probe into 36 Illinois school districts.]([link removed])

The Justice Department said it will be investigating whether the schools are promoting sexual orientation and gender ideology to students, and if they notified parents to allow them to opt out of such "education."

The probe will also look into which districts are allowing biological males into girls' bathrooms, locker rooms and sports teams, which would be a violation of Title IX and basic child safety, according to administration guidelines and requirements for securing federal dollars.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said in a press release, "This Department of Justice is determined to put an end to local school authorities keeping parents in the dark about how sexuality and gender ideology are being pushed in classrooms."
