We wish we could say we’re surprised…

Friend,

We’ve suspected all along that members of the Trump administration -- including the President himself -- do not have the best interests of the American public in mind. They've signaled through their actions (and inactions) that they either do not understand, or do not care to understand, our collective needs. But that’s never been more clear than it is right now, with our nation in the midst of the COVID-19 public health and economic crises. Let us know what you think.

Here are just a few of the outrageous and out-of-touch things key Trump administration officials have said -- publicly! -- since this pandemic began:

  • “It just wouldn’t be fair to use taxpayer dollars to pay more people to sit home than they would working and get a job.” -- Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin (He said this as the federal unemployment rate sat in double digits. And he said it with tens of millions of Americans unemployed or underemployed, through no fault of their own, as a result of the COVID-19-induced economic crisis.)

  • “More and more studies show that kids are actually stoppers of the disease and they don’t get it and transmit it themselves, so we should be in a posture of — the default should be getting back to school kids in person, in the classroom.” -- Education Secretary Betsy DeVos (She said this as COVID-19 infection rates continued to rise -- and death rates spiked in places like Arizona, Florida and Texas. And she said it in the absence of any substantive national plan or guidance to states on how to safely re-open schools, something which is part of her job!)

  • And Labor Secretary Eugene Scalia? Well, he’s been largely missing in action during this crisis. (His inaction on protecting our workers speaks louder than words!)

Friend, during this time of great uncertainty and economic turmoil in our nation, we need people leading our country who actually understand the serious problems Americans are facing and who are prepared to offer substantive solutions -- something the Trump administration is NOT doing!

Allied Progress remains fully dedicated to keeping our policy makers answerable for their words and actions. But to do this most effectively, we want to hear from you.

Will you take a minute to share your thoughts?

Thank you so much. And please stay safe.
