One year ago today, I launched my campaign for Congress. Over the past year, I’ve had the honor of talking to thousands of Iowans, visiting them on their front porches, and sitting in their living rooms.
With the help of my neighbors and supporters, like you, we’re building an incredible grassroots movement. But we still have an uphill battle ahead of us. As I write this and reflect on how far we’ve come, I’m also reminded of what we’re up against. Today, J.D. Vance was in Des Moines trying to rally support for Zach Nunn. That visit is a reminder of why I decided to run for Congress in the first place. Because, Zach Nunn is failing us, John. Families’ healthcare premiums have skyrocketed while rural hospitals are closing their doors. Hardworking parents are struggling to put food on the table even as food assistance is cut and grocery prices keep rising. Farmers are suffering under tariffs and an economy that isn’t working for them. National Republicans know Zach Nunn is in trouble. That’s why they’re throwing everything they can at this race — flying in Trump and Vance and reserving millions in ads to try to hold onto power. They’re trying to overwhelm this race early because they know if Iowans hear our message, their grip on this seat is at risk. I’m running for Congress because my neighbors deserve better than leadership that votes against their interests. I’ve stood up time and again for Iowa families, taken on powerful insiders who rig the system against everyday Iowans, and shown up for my community even when it was difficult.
