Today is Election Day in Tennessee. Voters across the state are heading to the polls right now to exercise their fundamental right to vote.

And in a move that’s beyond outrageous, today is also the day Governor Bill Lee has chosen to gavel in an official special session to rig our congressional maps and silence those very same voters.

Following a disastrous Supreme Court decision that gutted what remained of the Voting Rights Act, Governor Bill Lee and Tennessee Republicans are rushing to eliminate our last remaining Democratic seat in Memphis to bend the knee to Donald Trump.

They are doing this today to distract us. They want us to be overwhelmed. But we refuse to sit back and let Republicans and a politicized Supreme Court rig the system.

Right now, Tennessee Democrats are fighting a battle on two fronts: We have organizers on the ground getting out the vote across all 95 counties, and we are actively protesting at the State Capitol to defend our maps.

But taking on this level of extremism while running a massive Election Day operation requires a surge of resources that we simply do not have right now.
