John —
We’ve got big news coming out of Nebraska. This week, Governor Pete Ricketts signed a law that removes the ban on eyewitness identification experts in the courtroom.
This officially makes Nebraska the 50th state to allow experts to testify about the reliability of eyewitness identifications.
This is a big deal. Eyewitness misidentification is the leading cause of wrongful convictions overturned with DNA, playing a role in 70% of cases. Allowing eyewitness ID experts to testify in court could help prevent wrongful convictions in Nebraska.
We’re so proud to have been a part of the efforts to get this law passed, and we’re going to continue fighting for more just policies in states across the country. To stay in the loop and find out how you can help, text INNOCENT to 52886 and you'll be added to our SMS list.
