BREAKING: Today I’m co-leading a coalition of more than 20 states in urging the U.S. Supreme Court to protect access to mifepristone, a safe and effective abortion medication.
On Friday, a federal court of appeals reinstated a medically unnecessary requirement that mifepristone be dispensed in person. That ruling is NOT supported by science, would create administrative chaos across the country, and would undermine states’ ability to protect access to reproductive care.
Soon after we filed our amicus brief, the Supreme Court granted an administrative stay, temporarily pausing the lower court’s ruling until next Monday. I strongly urge the Supreme Court to issue a final ruling that protects the availability of mifepristone through telehealth, making it easier for women, especially in rural, low-income, and underserved communities, to access reproductive health care.
Bottom line: mifepristone is a safe, effective, and lifesaving medication, and attempts to limit access to it are driven by a right-wing, anti-science political agenda determined to chip away at reproductive freedom nationwide.
