STARLING: ECHOLS LYING TO OKLAHOMA VOTERS ABOUT DEFENDING PRESIDENT TRUMP
Career politician’s new ad makes claims that court records flatly contradict
OKLAHOMA CITY — Republican Attorney General candidate Jeff Starling today called out career politician Jon Echols for running a television ad ([link removed]) that claims he defended President Trump in court and “saved democracy” — a ridiculous claim on its face that public court records do not support.
"Jon Echols lent his name to a case that lasted only days and was voluntarily dismissed. He never set foot in a courtroom to defend President Trump, and he wasn't a party to the case that decided this issue. That's just the truth, even if Jon Echols wants to now deceive Oklahomans," said Starling. "Oklahomans deserve an Attorney General who tells the truth — not a career politician who plays ‘pretend lawyer’ and invents a conservative record to paper over his betrayal of conservative values. While President Trump was being investigated by the Biden Justice Department and indicted by liberal attorneys general from blue states, Jon Echols turned his back on Trump by endorsing Ron DeSantis in 2024. But that’s what you expect from a RINO career politician who championed the biggest tax increase in state history while lining his own pockets with Oklahomans' tax dollars.”
The landmark case keeping President Trump on the ballot — Trump v. Anderson — was a Colorado case that was ultimately decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. Echols' name does not appear on a single court filing in that case. The two Oklahoma-related junk lawsuits to knock President Trump off the ballot were both thrown out at the pleading stage. In one, Echols filed a routine motion seeking the court's permission to allow the Oklahoma Republican Party to intervene. The case was voluntarily dismissed after only a few days, before any judge could rule on the motion.
Conservative Republican Jeff Starling is a practicing attorney, a businessman, and a political outsider who has actually litigated cases in state and federal court.
"There is a real fight coming to protect Oklahoma from the radical left, violent Chinese-backed criminal gangs, and corrupt politicians — some of whom have endorsed Echols for Attorney General," Starling campaign spokesman Tim Edson said. "That fight requires an Attorney General who has actually been in a courtroom fighting for the energy industry, farmers, and law enforcement. Career politician Jon Echols has more experience in the courtroom as a defendant in lawsuits over his companies’ shady business practices than as a lawyer.”
