With an ever-changing landscape of perceptions, policies, and possibilities in the Harm Reduction movement, this space is for celebrating our wins and building out our community towards collective action to promote the health and dignity of people who use drugs.

News: As State Withholds Contract Payments, Substance Use Treatment Providers Worry About Rising Overdoses, Disease Outbreaks ([link removed]) — New York state providers report already rising rates of overdose even with official data lags amidst the coronavirus crisis. State budget officials have been withholding payments for state contracts to manage cash flows, and the victims include people who use drugs, harm reduction programs and direct service providers.

Webinar: Safer Injection (Part 1 ([link removed]) and Part 2 ([link removed]) ) — (Aug. 17 and Aug. 27 at 3 PM ET) This two-part webinar (Part 1) will build participant knowledge and skills to work with clients around safer injection practices and complications associated with injecting. This course will provide an overview of the basic anatomy of veins and arteries; the supplies and equipment used to inject drugs; common injections practices; and harm reduction strategies for working with people who inject drugs.
Webinar: Implementing Syringe Vending Machines ([link removed]) — (Aug. 17 at 2 PM ET) AIDS United is partnering with Trac-B Exchange, End HIV Nevada, the Southern Nevada Health District, and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services for an interactive discussion and webinar on implementing syringe vending machines in your community. The 90-minute presentation will cover the history of syringe vending and implementation of the first syringe vending machines in the continental U.S. in Las Vegas in 2017. It will detail a how-to plan for a vending machine in your community. Be sure to have a phone or extra browser tab handy to engage with the presenters.
Virtual Office Hours: Safe Supply and COVID with Dr. Kim Sue ([link removed]) — (Aug. 19 at 1 PM ET)
With overdoses increasing during the COVID pandemic, we need all available options to prevent the harm and death of our community of people who use drugs (PWUD). Featuring PWUD and clinicians from Canada who have been at the forefront of implementing these programs in North America, we'll explore the concepts and intervention of prescribing a safe supply in the setting of a poisoned, street-based market where fentanyl is pervasive. How we can implement this in the US and what lessons can we learn from our Canadian community?

Participate in the second webinar in the Faith in Harm Reduction Webinar Series, a conversation on Overdose Policy, Racial Justice, and Liberation featuring speakers versed in the legal, spiritual, and intersectional justice dimensions of harm reduction. Speakers include Rev. Edwin Sanders (Metro Interdenominational Church), Tracie Gardner (Legal Action Center), Alexis Pleus (Truth Pharm), and Nathalia Gibbs (Harm Reduction Coalition)

Service of Lament and Resistance - Friday, August 21st at 6pm EST

This service for lives lost to overdose and anti-blackness will create ritual space for mourning and invite participants to deeper action. We will lift up the anniversary of loving Dan Bigg from beyond the earthly plane and the role he and other dearly beloveds have played in sowing the seeds of loving resistance and anti-blackness in the harm reduction movement. Musical performance by Reverend Sekou and the Seal Breakers.

Preach-In & Teach-In - Saturday, August 22nd at 3pm EST

This Preach-In and Teach-In will provide participants with strategies to advance harm reduction advocacy issues to build change in their communities. Join us in discussing policy that can support communities impacted by overdose and anti-blackness.
