John, In the months since the Virginia Values Act became the law of the land, some people have wondered if our work at Equality Virginia is done, but we're just getting started. While LGBTQ Virginians are now protected from discrimination in housing, employment, and public spaces, many people – particularly LGBTQ people of color – still continue to experience racism, homophobia, and transphobia in their daily lives. We must continue to advocate for those who are most impacted by discrimination in order for all LGBTQ people to thrive in our state.
With this in mind, we want to make sure that we are not leaving anyone behind as we advance towards the 2021 General Assembly session. We hope that all LGBTQ Virginians and allies, especially those who are Black, Indigenous, and people of color, will take our community survey. By engaging in our Legislative Equali-TEA series, you get to decide what we tackle next at the General Assembly. All of this preparation will help us get ready for another successful and historic legislative session, but we can't do this without your input. So, if you haven’t already, share your thoughts and experiences with us, and then forward the survey along to your friends. This weekend is a great time to complete the survey ahead of our Wednesday, August 19th deadline. We can guaran-tea that it'll only take a few minutes to complete!
After you complete the survey, make sure to register for our virtual town hall on August 26th and our 2021 action plan session on September 2nd. During these interactive, digital meetings, we'll get to review the data from the community survey and create a game plan together to prepare for the upcoming General Assembly session. We cannot wait to spend some quali-tea time with you in the coming weeks! - All of us at Equality Virginia
