Friend,

Last week marked the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. For decades, the VRA -- won through the blood and sweat of civil rights activists like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and John Lewis -- protected communities of color from voter suppression and gerrymandering.

But since 2013, when the Roberts Supreme Court struck down sections of the VRA, the law's promise has been stalled and even reversed. Dozens of states have instituted burdensome anti-voting laws. Hundreds of thousands of voters have been purged from the rolls. Nearly 1,700 polling places have been shuttered.

At this critical moment in our history, the fight for voting rights remains as essential as ever. The NDRC is proud to be a part of that fight -- but we can't do it without you.

Today I'm asking you to chip in to help us hit our $30,000 mid-month goal and continue our ground breaking work on voting rights.

After years of attacking the right to vote, Republicans are now using new tactics to make it even more difficult during this public health emergency. Trump has been undermining vote-by-mail on Twitter, and Senate Republicans are backing him up by refusing to fund safe elections. The new postmaster general, Trump donor Louis DeJoy, has taken steps to slow down mail delivery right before a crucial election.

The assault on the right to vote is strong -- but this community is even stronger. Together, we will beat back their schemes to suppress the vote, and beat them again on Election Day.

Can you help us do it? Chip in now to help us hit our critical mid-month goal.

Thanks,

Kelly Burton
President
