We are in unprecedented times resulting in a loss of job opportunities in Florida. Lots of politicians are shifting blame and pointing fingers. This won’t help.

Instead we need strong leadership, new thinking and clear plans in Tallahassee to grow Florida’s job opportunities. We want to hear your thoughts but first we want to explore with you three of Andrew’s plans for Florida’s job growth:

Safely Reopen to Keep Existing Jobs

There is so much opportunity to safeguard existing jobs that are currently in flux. Andrew wants to expand access to COVID testing so people can safely get back to the workplace. Florida’s government should provide the same assistance to small businesses that is afforded to big corporations, helping them keep their employees on the payrolls. And, provide expanded sick leave programs for those who are sick or quarantining so they can stay home and keep safe without the worry of losing their jobs. These social safety nets are exactly how a state government can help during the unprecedented times that we see ourselves in now.

Embrace New Industries such as Solar and Other Green Jobs

In 2019, Florida added almost 2,000 jobs just in solar, the largest growth in the US . Imagine a state that invests in solar job opportunities as well as water conservation, hydropower, and wind energy to name a few. (1) Florida would lead in green jobs -- quickly turning around our economy, restoring jobs and helping negate greenhouse gasses. It's a win-win-win for Florida job creation.

Expand Cannabis Opportunities

Medical cannabis is the fastest growing job market in America. With governmental help it can have a huge positive impact on Florida’s job opportunities. In 2019, medical cannabis employed over 211,000 people in the US, a 44% year-over-year increase. In 2018, Florida added more cannabis jobs than any other state, a 703% yearly increase. And, we are talking about high paying, skilled jobs, more than half of which are for accountants, lab workers, marketers, and tax experts, with a median annual salary of $58,511. (2)

In these unprecedented times, we need strong leaders with new thinking and clear plans in Tallahassee to shepherd these opportunities forward. Leaders like Andrew Learned.

We want to hear from you. Please reply to this email and tell us your thoughts, ideas, and opinions about growing Florida’s job opportunities.
