Last year, 34,000 additional women died during childbirth as a result of lost funding for UNFPA's lifesaving work. This year, we've set a goal to raise $34,000 by Mother's Day, May 10, and help more mothers survive.
These deaths are entirely preventable when we can show up with critical medicines, supplies, and expert midwives. Will you rush a lifesaving gift to deliver these means of survival to pregnant women in crisis today? [[link removed]?]

The day a woman gives birth is the day she is most likely to die.

Nearly 800 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth— one woman every two minutes. For every woman who dies, 20 to 30 more experience childbirth injuries, infections, or lifelong disabilities.

Most of these deaths and injuries are entirely preventable.

Having more trained midwives would avert roughly two-thirds of all maternal and newborn deaths. They can deliver 90% of essential sexual, reproductive, maternal, and newborn health services. Yet, because of a lack of investment and support, they account for only 10 percent of the global health workforce.

With a global shortage of 900,000 midwives , UNFPA the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, is stepping in to train and equip midwives around the world.

Midwives are crucial first responders and particularly valuable in times of crisis, not only as lifesaving providers but also are trusted members of the communities they serve. They have strong connections with local leaders and health centers, allowing them to quickly obtain information about, and for, those most in need of help.

UNFPA works in 150 countries. We know the data: where skilled midwives are present, maternal deaths fall. But midwives need training, equipment, and support to do their lifesaving work.

That's what your gift can do for women and girls today. Will you make a gift to train, equip, and deploy midwives in 150 countries around the world? [[link removed]?]

GIVE NOW—Equip Midwives. Save Lives. [[link removed]?]

We hope that one day, every mother can give birth safely, with dignity, leaving mother and baby healthy.
