On Monday, May 4, City Council formally begins its review of the Mayor’s Proposed Fiscal Year 2027 Budget with a week-long series of Budget Review Committee Meetings.

We have a special evening meeting beginning at 6:00 P.M. for your input on the proposed budget. You can participate in-person, virtually at https://www.sandiego.gov/councilmtg, or by telephone at 1-669-254-5252 ID Number 160 943 0466.

Navigating the projected budget deficit will require many difficult decisions and conversations across District 1 and the City. As Council President, I am committed to a process that is open, transparent, and provides San Diegans the opportunity to make their case about which areas to cut and which to keep. In past years, I have asked for your project and program priorities. This year, I need your thoughts on the proposed cuts and potential alternatives.

In addition, to the evening session, consider reaching out to my office at 619-236-6611 or [email protected].

Advocating for San Diego in Washington, D.C.

I joined the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Mission to Washington D.C. as San Diego City Council President and SANDAG Vice Chair to meet with the nation's legislators and policy officials, paying my own way to better serve my constituents.

With leaders from the Chamber, SANDAG, Port of San Diego, and City Council, I met with U.S. Department of Transportation regarding funding of the LOSSAN Corridor and the Otay Mesa East Port of Entry, Senator Padilla on appropriations and needed changes to the USMCA to enable a sustainable solution to the cross-border pollution (aka sewage spills in the Tijuana River Valley), and the State Department on cross-border pollution, Otay Mesa East Port of Entry, and cross-border efforts to keep our binational region an economic powerhouse. While not on the Hill, I heard from local businesses about their needs in these economic times and other public agencies on how we can better collaborate.

The Mission to Washington, D.C., was an effective opportunity for local leaders across sectors and government to provide a compelling, united front in our nation’s capital and ensure we receive funding for local projects.

Welcoming Grocery Outlet Bargain Market to Pacific Beach

The Pacific Beach community welcomed a new small business to the neighborhood this week. Savannah Stallings presented a proclamation in recognition of the day and stayed for the ribbon (a printed grocery receipt) cutting.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market opened their store at 1211 Garnet Avenue on Thursday, April 30th and is committed to providing high-quality, affordable items to the Pacific Beach community.

Congratulations on your grand opening and welcome!

Get it Done in D1

Figueroa Boulevard has been freshly paved between Bond Street and Grand Avenue. This roadway had Pavement Condition Indexes as low as 4.72 out of 100 scale.

These permanent repairs were completed by the Transportation Department’s in-house mill and pave teams. Thank you for your excellent work restoring this road!
