John —
My mentor and lifelong friend, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, would be very proud to see how far we’ve come since her extraordinary bid for president in 1972. Working on her campaign, she showed me the power ‘unbought and unbossed’ women of color had to change our country.
Shirley always said, "If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair."
Well, women of color all around the country have heeded her advice, brought their folding chairs, and are making history leading the fight for racial, economic, and social justice.
That’s why I’m fired up and working around the clock to elect women of color up and down the ballot on Election Day. But we have a critical mid-FEC deadline coming up, and we’re counting on a wave of grassroots donations from supporters like you to help show the strength of our progressive movement.
Can you chip in $10 or anything you can to help us reach our mid-FEC fundraising goal? We need all hands on deck to build a team strong enough to elect a wave of progressive women of color to Congress.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
These milestones would not be possible without Shirley, who paved a path for us to follow in her footsteps. She is often remembered for being the first, but she certainly won’t be the last.
We still have a long way to go in our fight for true justice and full equality. But thanks to you, we are closer than ever to putting forth a bold, progressive agenda.
In solidarity,
Barbara Lee
