Dear John,
We're pleased to offer NIAC members the opportunity to rent a new documentary [[link removed]] , Desert One , ahead of its general release date! The film tells the story of Operation Eagle Claw—a covert operation ordered by then U.S. president, Jimmy Carter, to rescue 52 Americans held during the Iran hostage crisis. The film also sheds light on the circumstances that preceded the embassy seizure on that fateful day in November.

Unearthing incredible footage, never before heard tapes and archives, and interviews with the highest U.S. officials to tell the story of an American rescue mission that ended in tragedy, the film provides an important look at an event whose reverberations can still be seen. With interviews from President Carter, Americans and Iranians involved in the hostage crisis, as well as from the team that was tasked to rescue them, the filmmakers tell a fascinating historical story of political intrigue and action.
Once you've watched the film, we hope you'll also join us for an informative panel discussion on August 31st at 4pm EST [[link removed]] , with the director, award winning documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple , Ambassador John Limbert , and Captain Ishimoto who served as an intelligence officer for Operation Eagle Claw.
Make sure not to miss out on this phenomenal film—and we look forward to a lively discussion about the documentary in the coming weeks!
Best,
Assal Rad
