Legislative and State Government Updates 💭

As your state senator, I have voted for common-sense legislation that promotes Hoosier values, and that includes protecting our land from our nation's adversaries.
This year, I supported a new law that strengthens Indiana's ban on businesses from foreign adversary nations, like China and Iran, from owning any land in Indiana.
Senate Enrolled Act 256 builds on a 2024 law that prevented individuals and businesses from adversarial nations from purchasing farmland.
SEA 256 also requires agents of a foreign adversary nation to register with the Attorney General's office and prohibits businesses from these countries from entering into sensitive technology contracts with state or local governments.
This year I also supported common-sense legislation that:

Touring the MISO Energy Facility
|
As a member of the Senate Committee on Utilities, I remain focused on ensuring electric rates are affordable for Hoosiers. A key part of that responsibility is understanding how our power grid operates and the many factors that impact it.
This week, I had the opportunity to visit the Midcontinent Independent System Operator facility in Carmel alongside fellow legislators. MISO serves as the coordinating force behind the electrical grid across much of the Midwest and down to Louisiana, helping ensure energy is delivered safely and efficiently to millions of Americans.
Thank you to State Rep. Tim Yocum (R-Clinton) for the invitation, and to the dedicated professionals at MISO for providing an informative and insightful tour.

Tuesday marked a major step forward for healthcare accessibility in Grant County with the groundbreaking of the new Parkview Health facility at I-69 and State Road 18 in Marion. This project represents more than new jobs and a new building – it's a meaningful investment in expanded healthcare options and improved access for our residents.
Thank you to Parkview for your continued commitment to our community and the people we serve. It was an honor to take part in the groundbreaking.

Groundbreaking for New Main Street Mile Initiative at Taylor University
|
Grant County is truly blessed to have Taylor University and its incredible partnership with the Town of Upland. I was honored to take part in the groundbreaking on the Main Street Mile. This is a transformative project that will include a 38-room boutique inn, event venue and guest cottages. This is an exciting investment in the future of the community, and I’m proud to see it moving forward.

Thank you, VITA of Marion, for inviting me to tour the community and meet with residents.
VITA of Marion is an affordable assisted living and memory care community for seniors. They stand out for their modern approach to assisted living and provide residents with quality care, independence and a strong sense of community. Every resident I spoke with told me they loved living at VITA. What a testament to the staff!

Visiting More Healthcare Facilities in Senate District 17
|
I spent time this week visiting healthcare facilities in Marion to talk with residents, meet staff and get a firsthand look at the care being provided.
Thank you to Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center and Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation Center for the warm welcome and for taking the time to show me around. Both places truly felt like home, which says a lot about the people who work there and the environment they’ve created.
I was especially impressed with how Wesleyan Health goes above and beyond to serve our veterans, meeting them where they are and honoring their unique needs. It’s great to see that kind of care and commitment right here in our community.
