*Governor Walz Proclaims May “Hire A Veteran Month” in Minnesota *
*St. Paul, Minn. – *Governor Tim Walz is proclaiming May 2026 as “Hire a Veteran Month” in the State of Minnesota and drawing attention to the 20th Annual Veterans Career Fair on May 20. The proclamation highlights the unique value veterans bring to the state’s labor force, encourages Minnesota employers to hire veterans, and recognizes the challenges veterans may face when transitioning to civilian employment or looking for work after returning from a military deployment.
Hire a Veteran Month’s cornerstone event, the *20th Annual Veterans Career Fair, takes place on Wednesday, May 20 from 2-6 p.m. at the Heritage Center of Brooklyn Center*. The event will feature 100 employers, resume review assistance, interview preparation help, a complimentary LinkedIn photography station, and service providers offering assistance for veterans and their families. All U.S. military veterans, current service members, members of the National Guard and Reserves, military spouses and Gold Star families are invited to attend the event, which is sponsored by the CareerForce Veterans Employment Services team at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA).
“Employers participating in the Veterans Career Fair recognize the value veterans can bring to their workforce and want to meet with current and former service members to discuss open positions and hire promising candidates,” said *DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek.* “Employers know that veterans have many transferrable skills and are leaders who take initiative when something needs to be done.”
Employers participating in the Veterans Career Fair are hiring now and are encouraged to offer positions with health care insurance and other benefits as well as family-sustaining wages.
