Primary Day is May 19!

Pennsylvania has one of the strictest, most restrictive primary systems in the country—completely closed to anyone who's not willing to register as a Republican or a Democrat. Until that system is reformed (by the work of Ballot PA <[link removed]> and their allies, like us), independent voters are inclined to ignore primary elections. Let's talk about what that means for one candidate we've endorsed.

1. District 196 Special Election

<[link removed]>

Forward Democrat Ron Ruman is running in a special election, which will be held on primary day. He's popular with independent voters, and expects to appeal to them in the general election this November... but those independent voters often miss special elections that are held on primary day because they're used to being excluded from the primaries. If you live in the York County area, reach out to Ron's campaign <[link removed]> and see if you can help.

2. Independents Gathering Signatures

One of the main challenges for independent candidates is organizing volunteers to gather signatures. Are you interested in helping? Then the best day to do it is primary day. Signatures can be collected at polling places, giving volunteers easy access to registered voters in the district. (When you're outside the two-party system, you have to work smart to get ahead!). Contact us ASAP to offer your help- even if it's just a few hours.

Chris and Rodney are both running for the Pennsylvania State House and have been officially endorsed by the PA Forward Party.

Other Independents on Our Radar

We believe that independent candidates deserve more attention, so here are some other independent candidates to consider:

<[link removed]>

Isabelle Harman for PA's 10th Congressional District <[link removed]>

Jenn Brothers for PA's 9th Congressional District <[link removed]>

Drew Bingaman for PA State House District 108 <[link removed]>

Please let us know of any other candidates you think we should be aware of—even Republicans or Democrats. The Forward Party is a movement of independent thinkers. Our movement is larger than our party.

3. Support Open Primaries

There are 2 major groups in PA working to end our closed primary system: Independent Pennsylvanians <[link removed]> and Ballot PA <[link removed]>. Please check out their work (and sign their petition). Here in the Forward Party, we believe that election reforms are necessary so the system can work better for everyone—not just independents, but Republicans and Democrats too. We all benefit when our elections produce better leaders.

4. Vote on Primary Day!

If you are registered with a major party (or have a special election in your district), don't miss primary day on May 19. Let your voice be heard in the most fundamental way: by voting!
