Hello Neighbors,

It’s hard to believe May is already here. As we head into the final stretch of the legislative session and schools begin counting down their last weeks of the academic year, the pace of life seems to quicken. Amid all the activity and anticipation that comes with this time of year, one tradition is already in full swing: spring sports. Across our community, local students are stepping onto fields, tracks, and courts, dedicating countless hours to competition, teamwork, and personal growth. Their commitment and enthusiasm not only showcase their athletic talents, but also bring a sense of pride and connection to our schools and neighborhoods.

For more information on local high school sports check here: Little Falls [ [link removed] ], Aitkin [ [link removed] ], Mora [ [link removed] ], Onamia [ [link removed] ], Ogilvie [ [link removed] ], Staples-Motley [ [link removed] ]. Facebook is always a great place to find information on local school events.

Our work at the Capitol has shifted as most committees have wrapped up and the focus has moved to the House floor. Even with that change, school safety remains a top priority as we continue working through legislation. Every student in Minnesota deserves to learn in a safe environment, but too many schools are still waiting for the resources they need to improve facilities, strengthen safety plans, and support student mental health. It is important that we pass a school safety bill this session that includes practical measures like mandatory threat reporting, funding for all schools, and expanded mental health resources. We may not agree on every detail, but that should not stop us from moving forward on the areas where there is common ground. Ensuring student safety is a basic responsibility, and it is something we need to get done before the session ends.

I will keep you updated as we continue working through these last few weeks of the session. There are many bills that have the potential to pass, even with the evenly divided split of the legislature, and I look forward to sharing our progress with you. Back in the district, I want to give a quick shoutout to Little Falls freshman Ayla Hofer [ [link removed] ] on advancing to and competing in the State Tournament for Speech this past weekend. This is a huge accomplishment, especially so early in her high school career. Congratulations Ayla!

BTW: By the way, the weather is supposed to be absolutely beautiful this weekend. Take advantage by visiting a local park such as Charles A. Lindbergh State Park or the Crane Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.
