Dear Neighbor,

Recent news of a suspected cancer cluster near the former Aeromarine landfill site in Keyport has been a nightmare for residents. That’s why I’ve been convening meetings with the EPA, CDC, and New Jersey’s Departments of Health and Environmental Protection to ensure these agencies work together to investigate the matter fully.

On Tuesday, when EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin testified before my Energy and Commerce Committee, I pressed him to address this suspected cancer cluster head-on. Watch my exchange with Administrator Zeldin below.

Preventing a spike in your utility bills

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC—has extended the PJM price cap I urged them to approve—and that’ll prevent sharp electricity rate hikes for NJ households! It also gives regulators, states, and Congress time to pursue longer term reforms to address PJM’s underlying challenges—including delays in bringing new energy supply online and rapidly growing demand, including from data centers. Without this step, customers would have faced another round of sharp increases driven by supply constraints and rising demand. In March, I urged FERC to approve this exact proposal to prevent New Jersey residents from absorbing those costs.

At a moment where utility customers in the Garden State have been burdened by high electricity bills—with some paying almost $250 more last year, I’m very glad to see this price cap approved. Rest assured, I’ll continue working to make sure energy is affordable for all NJ residents.

Community Corner

This week’s student spotlight goes to MakEMinds, a robotics team of 11^th grade students from Edison. The team recently attended the Governor's Cup Robotics Competition in Washington, DC and finished among the top teams. On the local level, MakEMinds has spread awareness about robotics, exposing younger students to the endless possibilities that come with a STEM education.
