Yesterday morning, the Supreme Court struck down a major part of the Voting Rights Act – one of the most important tools we have to stop politicians from rigging maps and silencing voters.
Republican lawmakers across the country have been waiting for this – Mississippi lawmakers even immediately redrew its maps to make the entire state controlled by Republicans!
Now the GOP has a clearer path to redraw districts, dilute the power of Black and Brown communities, and lock in control before the midterms.
Here in Arizona, we’ve been able to push back. We’ve got Katie Hobbs in the governor’s office, and strong Democrats in the legislature who have stood up for fair representation.
But Katie is on the ballot this November, and if Arizona ever falls into Republican control, we know exactly what they’ll do with it.
They won’t hesitate to redraw maps, silence communities, and hand themselves power they couldn’t win fairly. That’s why what we’re doing here in Maricopa County matters so much.
