BAD GUY -- CARTOON AND COMMENTARY BY ROB ROGERS
Trump used his latest assassination attempt as an opportunity to plug
his plan for an unapproved gilded ballroom. Classy.

RE: 77% OF AMERICANS BLAME TRUMP FOR SOARING GAS PRICES
I and the overwhelming majority of you blame Trump for higher fuel
prices. Blaming Trump feels good to me. But. We have a lot of
experience showing that blaming Trump does not defeat him & his
co-conspirators. Unless and until we present a progressive program to
address the costs of living which Trump & his allies have imposed on
us, we cannot loosen the grip that the rich and their corporations
(the powers behind Trump & trumpery) have on us. Here? An image of
very high gasoline prices. In the comments? Jessica Corbett's essay,

The only answers to elect more progressive Democrats. My candidate for
California governor is Tom Steyer who has been endorsed by Ro Khanna,
Jane Fonda, Third Act and Rebecca Solnit. My candidate to replace
Nancy Pelosi as San Francisco congressperson is Connie Chan.
Chakrabarti pretends to be a progressive but he is just a Silicon bro
who has funded the defeat of at least one DSA SF supervisor.

You know, Americans need to face reality. With the Strait of Hormuz
blocked, fertilizer, which is apparently a petroleum product, can’t
get out to Africa and South East Asia. If the fertilizer doesn’t get
released soon, those countries who need it could miss the planting
season. This means that there could be a vast famine affecting
hundreds of millions of people. So we could have a situation where
millions of Americans are bitterly complaining about the price of gas,
while millions of people are dying of hunger. Americans, think about
that.

SLEEPER CELL -- MEME
RE: FACING UP TO THE HORRORS OF THE MỸ LAI MASSACRE
Important article but Vann does not mention Hugh Thompson.
Particularly unfortunate when American soldiers are again being asked
to commit war crimes and when former military officers (who are
elected officials) are encouraging soldiers not to obey illegal
orders. Everyone should know about Hugh Thompson's actions preventing
even more deaths at My Lai.

RE: HOW NETANYAHU HURT AMERICA’S JEWS
As a Jew who deeply cares about human rights for all unconditionally,
I am offended and disgusted by your recent article. It shows a failure
to take responsibility for one's own behavior and what one endorses by
remaining silent. I fail to understand how you could publish this
piece, which clearly aims to place all the blame solely on Netanyahu,
while simultaneously silencing those who rightly demand that Jews in
the diaspora take responsibility for the atrocities and crimes
committed in our names through our silence, indifference, or
accusations of antisemitism against those who recognize Palestinians
as human beings with equal rights to live.
I am tired of diaspora Jews who avoid responsibility by blaming only
the current "monster" occupying Palestine, well knowing that
atrocities have been continuously committed under every single
previous prime minister. This article attempts to accuse those who
care about human rights as antisemites, hoping to prevent them from
pointing to the elephant in the room: Jewish organizations, temples,
synagogues, and individual Jews who have been indoctrinated to believe
that being Jewish requires supporting, remaining silent about, or
deflecting from the endless and unprecedented number of international
human rights crimes committed by those who conflate Jewish identity
with support for what is cynically disguised as a Jewish identity.
I am profoundly disappointed and angry that you have fallen for this
and given the author the opportunity to publish under your name.
If whoever is in charge of reviewing or conducting editorial
examination failed to recognize this transparently disingenuous
attempt by the author, I would highly recommend replacing that person
or board members to prevent you from falling for such dishonest and
cynical attempts at self-exoneration.

RE: EVANGELICAL NATIONALISTS AND MORALITY
there is no morality on the right and among Nationalist Christians.
Anyone who thinks so is an NC or not keeping up. I also believe most
of the fascist Christians who are not really a goners are atheists.
I.e. they have no fear of going to hell for their vicious, lying,
murderous, stupid...etc behavior.

The Kerala success story may not be as successful as it appears. At
least the author should have indicated why its export of workers is
not a negative. And I'm a fan of Kerala, so I write this from that
beginning point.

THE POST-HUMAN ECONOMY -- CARTOON AND COMMENTARY BY JEN SORENSEN
I have always found business reporting to be somewhat interesting in
that it provides a peek at what’s happening on the ground beyond the
usual political headlines. But lately when I glance at financial news,
it seems increasingly untethered to reality and focused on economic
activity that offers little to no benefit to society. Stocks jump on
the ramblings of a madman who contradicts himself constantly.
Everything is AI speculation all the time, alongside crypto and
prediction markets. Companies are rewarded for environmental and human
rights atrocities (this is nothing new, of course).Rather than having
an economy that serves people, we are witnessing an out-of-control
system that incentivizes getting humans out of the way.

New York City will hold a series of free events for soccer fans who
hope to experience the excitement of the World Cup
[[link removed]] but can't the
hefty prices for tickets to the matches, officials announced Monday.
The events -- one in each of the city's five boroughs -- will include
watch parties for the matches and other festivities. They will be
staged at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, the Billie Jean King
National Tennis Center in Queens, Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, a
shopping center near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx and a minor league
baseball stadium in Staten Island.
A separate fan event planned for Sports Illustrated Stadium in
Harrison, New Jersey, where the New York Red Bulls play, will cost
$10.
World Cup matches will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey,
where just getting to and from the matches on public transit could
cost $150

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a noted soccer devotee, announced the
free events alongside New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a fellow Democrat.
"Every fan should be able to watch the greatest tournament on earth
without dipping into their savings," Mamdani said.
Similar fan events are being planned for other U.S. host cities.
