I just stepped off the debate stage, and one thing became crystal clear on that stage tonight:

Look, my opponents aren’t bad people. But what they’re talking about is making little changes here and there. Adjusting things on the margins. That’s not what Mainers want or need.
We’re demanding more. We’re demanding REAL accountability from government. REAL solutions to the problems that keep us up at night and stretch us too thin. And REAL spines to stand up to corporate greed and special interests from Big Pharma to big landowners.
That’s what my campaign is about. I have a plan to double the millionaire tax to 4% and generate $300 million to refund the working class. I have a plan to stop electricity rate hikes, to deliver free universal childcare for every family, and to lower the cost of prescription drugs.
We have big problems in this state and this country, and we need big ideas to solve them. It’s just not enough to say “I’m a Democrat” and call it a day. We need Democrats who will stand up to complacency in our party and take big swings to make life better for working people.
My opponents, fine people as they are, won’t do that.
That’s why Bernie Sanders endorsed me — not them. That’s why the Maine AFL-CIO made me their first-EVER endorsement in a gubernatorial primary. It’s why more than 40 local labor unions and 70 current and former elected officials are on this team. And it’s why more than 10,000 individual grassroots donors have joined this team since we launched.
I’m all in to win this. But while I’m incredibly proud to reject Big Money, it means I need to work 10 times harder every single day to raise the resources it’ll take to secure a win. I’m counting on you to step up whenever you can and however you can to help get there.
