Ten Commandments Law Upheld! It's Time For Schools to Comply |
Following the recent decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upholding the constitutionality of S.B. 10, the Texas Ten Commandments law, Texas Values is calling on school districts across the state to move quickly to comply with the law.
Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values stated:
“The courts have spoken, and school districts should not delay in following the law. This decision affirms what we have said from the beginning—recognizing the historical role of the Ten Commandments in our nation’s legal tradition is fully consistent with the Constitution. School districts do not need permission to follow the law – they should move forward with confidence. The time to act is now.”
Several districts in the San Antonio area are complying with the law and displaying posters. However, reports indicate that Austin Independent School District is pointing to prior litigation agreements as a possible reason not to comply, despite the Fifth Circuit’s decision on the merits that resolved the agreement’s underlying injunction. Round Rock ISD and other school districts across Texas have yet to display the posters or publish clear timelines on implementation, effectively slow-walking compliance with a law that has now been upheld and an injunction that has been vacated.

Breaking! Investigation of Boy Using Girls' Restroom in Austin ISD Escalates, Boy is still in Girls’ restroom |
This week, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sent a second letter to Austin ISD upon discovering that there was a recent incident of a boy using the girls’ restroom at the AISD Performing Arts Center. This comes after the Texas AG sent a letter to Austin ISD last month about a boy who is using the girls’ locker rooms and restrooms at Austin High School. Texas Values is legally representing and assisting the parent who filed the formal complaint in March.
The second letter asks for similar documents that were requested before including copies of district policies and enforcement actions surrounding use of private spaces. Texas Values continues to play an active role in assisting with the enforcement of the Texas Women’s Privacy Act. If you have questions or concerns regarding the Texas Women’s Privacy Act, please send an email to [email protected].

Busted! Texas Education Agency (TEA) Thinks Austin ISD Pride Week Violated State Law |
In March, Texas Values sent a legal and policy letter to Austin ISD advising them that their plans to celebrate Pride week in schools was a violation of the Parental Rights in Education Act, Senate Bill 12. Of course, Austin ISD did not respond and continued to have their Pride Week in March. A Texas Values supporter who was volunteering at an elementary school shared with us that an organization called “Local Queer” donated a “Pride box” filled with LGBT flags, lesbian flags, and other LGBT memorabilia.
Now, the Texas Education Agency has announced that they are investigating Austin ISD for possibly violating newly passed state law that prohibits the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in public K-12 schools. This is another great victory for Texas Values and all parents across the state of Texas. We will continue to keep you updated on the issue.

“Over 400,000 school buildings that we know of that should have the Ten Commandments posted in every classroom today. There are very few document that have had a larger impact on western civilization as a whole but especially American culture and law than the Ten Commandments.
If we have got a school district that’s just saying I’m not going to comply with the law. I mean do we really want to entrust our kids to them as our educators. We would not have been able to be a part of that lawsuit if it weren't for Texas Values.” ~ Senator Phil King

We have the right to free exercise. These rights are given by God and not man… Men are trying to fight against God himself" ~ Coach Joe Kennedy
