[[link removed]]Democrat,
This week Joe Biden made history by selecting Kamala Harris as his running mate, and the announcement has Democrats from around New Jersey and the country fired up and ready to win in November. You can see reactions to the pick from Governor Murphy and myself here, [[link removed]] where we discussed the groundbreaking nature of the selection with Senator Harris now poised to become the first Black woman and the first South Asian American to serve in national office.

Governor Murphy made two major announcements this week regarding our state's continued efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and keep residents safe. First, after careful consideration and review of the issues with teachers, administrators, public health officials, parents and other stakeholders, the Governor announced that public school districts can begin the school year via remote-only instruction [[link removed]] if they cannot adequately meet critical health and safety protocols.

Second, Governor Murphy announced that the upcoming General Election will be conducted mostly by mail [[link removed]] in a similar fashion to the recent Primary Election. Building on the success of the primary, this move will help our state balance the important needs to keep residents safe while protecting our sacred right to vote. NJDSC will announce more information soon on how our party will work with Democratic candidates and local party organizations to make sure that as many voters as possible are able to vote by mail in this crucial election.

While we are all focused on electing Joe Biden as our next President and sending Democratic majorities with him to Congress, we also can't forget about crucial down ballot races throughout our state. One of the most important is a special election for State Senate to represent the 25th legislative district, which includes much of Morris County and parts of Somerset County. This district has been trending Democratic in recent years and now our party has a real opportunity to take this seat and elect an outstanding candidate -- meet Rupande Mehta!
[link removed] [[link removed]]
An analytical specialist working in sourcing and negotiations on multi-million dollar projects, Rupande has an MBA and a Master's in Public Administration where she was a Fellow of the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers. Our own NJDSC South Asian American Caucus endorsed Rupande [[link removed]] , calling her "a staunch and consistent advocate for the South Asian American community." Learn more about Rupande and support her campaign here. [[link removed]]
Thank you,
Chairman John Currie
P.S. The South Asian American Caucus of the NJ Democratic State Committee wishes all Pakistani Americans and Indian Americans a very Happy Independence Day. It is fitting to recognize both holidays together as we share histories and cultures. Our communities in New Jersey have worked hard to make our mark on our great state. SAAC celebrates both of these important independence days with our South Asian American communities and all of New Jersey.
Paid for by the New Jersey Democratic State Committee.
