Devastating news, John: The Supreme Court just dealt a major blow to the Voting Rights Act.
The Voting Rights Act has been a pillar of American democracy since 1965 — providing critical protections that generations of Americans put their lives on the line for so that every voter, no matter their race or ZIP code, gets to have a voice in our democracy.
This ruling will have seismic effects on the ability of communities of color to be represented in the halls of power.
We are heartbroken and angry, but we aren’t wallowing in defeat. We’ve been preparing for this outcome and we aren’t wasting a single moment getting ready for the fight ahead. As you read this, Republicans in states across the country — and especially in the South — are plotting to use and misuse this ruling in efforts to throw out their maps and draw minority opportunity districts out of existence.
Let’s be clear: We can stop them, and the NDR PAC has a plan to fight back. We’re prepared to use every tool at our disposal — mobilizing voters, putting pressure on lawmakers, and electing fair-minded public officials — to protect the voting rights of all Americans.
Rush in your emergency donation to help NDR PAC respond to this crisis for democracy. Your support has never been more crucial than in this moment, and we greatly appreciate it: [[link removed]]
As we write this, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is pushing through a new extreme gerrymander — saying openly that the Supreme Court has given them cover to do so. We know other Republican-held states could quickly follow suit — and the result could be a tsunami of extreme gerrymanders and district lines that attempt to silence American voters.
Now that this ruling has come down, some experts believe that Republicans could redraw maps to steal more congressional seats in the months ahead. Put simply, if you thought that Donald Trump’s manufactured redistricting crisis was bad already, buckle up for what’s next.
How we respond in moments like this will determine the future of our democracy and fairness in America. And we simply cannot fail that test.
Donate to the NDR PAC so we can defeat extreme Republican gerrymanders in Florida and wherever they arise, and let’s fight to preserve representative democracy in America: [[link removed]]
Thank you — we’ll be in touch with more as we know it.
