Trina Swanson Trailblazers and Changemakers Interview
[[link removed]]
Women Winning recently sat down with CD8 endorsed candidate Trina Swanson for a wide-ranging conversation about her path to public service, her deep roots in northern Minnesota, and the values driving her campaign for Congress. From growing up in a working-class family in Hermantown to serving nearly 25 years in federal service, Swanson shares how her lived experiences shape her commitment to fighting for working families, accessible healthcare, and accountable leadership.
In the interview, Swanson reflects on the personal moments that propelled her to run—including her mother’s loss of healthcare after a lifetime of work—and outlines her vision for community-centered leadership grounded in showing up, listening, and delivering for the people of the Eighth District. She also speaks candidly about reproductive justice, immigration, and the importance of restoring trust and transparency in government.
Throughout the conversation, Swanson emphasizes a consistent theme: leadership should be rooted in real life, not politics as usual. Her perspective offers a clear look at the priorities and principles she would bring to Washington.

Rep. Kaela Berg on why she wants to represent Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District

Esme Murphy: “You’ve gotten quite a bit of publicity as one of the few truly working class people running for Congress. You have been a flight attendant for more than 20 years with endeavor, a subsidiary of Delta airlines. What does that bring to the race?”
Rep. Kaela Berg: “ In an economy where so many hard-working families are struggling, they don’t feel like they’re heard. [They feel that] politicians in Washington, as they enrich themselves, don’t understand what the average family is struggling through right now. To have somebody who has lived that alongside them, that’s a really exciting opportunity to actually have a representative Democracy.”

From Pennsylvania to Illinois to California: A Wave of Good News for Women

Originally published by Ms Magazine
For all the around-the-clock chaos spurred by the federal government, disdain for reproductive health and rights is an omnipresent and defining feature.
Two examples from the past week:
* On issuing a lengthy report accusing the Biden administration of unfair treatment of antiabortion protestors, the Department of Justice fired at least four prosecutors for enforcing the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act during his tenure.
* In a House hearing for the Committee on Education and Workforce, “Examining the Policies and Priorities of the Department of Health and Human Services,” HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. refused to acknowledge the well-established, shameful statistic that Black women in the United States are at least three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their white counterparts—even as Rep. Summer Lee (D-Pa.) called out that it was Black Maternal Health Week and asked, point-blank, “Do you have an idea of how we could solve the Black maternal mortality crisis if we can’t say Black?”
That’s why it is a relief to point to bona fide good news coming from the states, often some of the best laboratories for democracy.
