Hi Friend,
The explosion in Beirut may be the largest non-atomic explosion in a populated area in history. Hospitals in Beirut that were already at capacity because of the coronavirus have been badly damaged or destroyed. 300,000 people became homeless in an instant. Lebanon imports 90% of its wheat and has less than a month of grain reserves.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship Chair Zoe Lofgren, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, and Congresswoman March Kaptur are asking their colleagues to join them on a letter to President Trump and Acting DHS Secretary Wolf to designate Lebanon for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) and to permit those affected by the catastrophe to find safe haven in our country.

TPS can be granted to individuals who are nationals of a country that has been designated as unsafe for return due to “extraordinary and temporary conditions” unless it would be contrary to the national interest. Similarly, nationals of a country may be designated for a temporary administrative stay of removal in the form of DED, by Executive Order or a Presidential Memorandum. As news reports of the impact of the Beirut explosion continue to unfold, it is clear that Lebanon is not in a position to safely accept the return of its citizens at this time.

Ask your Representatives to sign the Lebanon TPS/DED le tter urging the Administration take immediate steps to allow Lebanese nationals to remain in the United States. [[link removed]]
