Hey friend,

As Finance Director, I’m the one who’s supposed to be asking you for donations and making sure all our numbers line up so Doug’s campaign can keep going strong. But right now, all of us over here at campaign HQ are focused on some different numbers, ones that are hitting too close to home.

$0: the amount that Mitch McConnell’s proposed COVID-19 “relief” bill would provide for state and local governments coping with this crisis. Without this funding, public employees like teachers and emergency workers will see mass layoffs, testing and tracing efforts will be squashed, and safe voting measures will fall by the wayside.

51 million: the number of unemployed Americans who have spent the past two weeks with no support because McConnell left the House relief bill on his desk, untouched, for months and instead wrote his own behind closed doors – delaying bipartisan negotiation for weeks. Now, he’s decided to adjourn the Senate until after Labor Day, prioritizing his vacation over the millions of lives and livelihoods at risk.

$600: the supplemental unemployment support that countless of you told us was the only thing keeping a roof above your families’ heads and food on your tables. The President’s Executive Order ensures our families get only half of that , forcing people to make impossible choices between being able to pay their bills and keeping their loved ones safe.

There’s no way Doug is accepting this deal for the people of Alabama – he knows our families and neighbors need real , consistent support through this crisis, not just the bare minimum that McConnell’s corporate partisan overlords will allow. All of us here at HQ are behind Doug – but we’re going to need your help, too.

If we’re going to force the extremists back to the negotiating table, we need to put them under serious pressure. Sign our petition and force Mitch to put people before politics – and his vacation! We need a real relief bill now. >> [[link removed]]

I know I’m not playing my normal role here, but I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t serious – the numbers never lie.

Let's do this,
