BIG: Court Blocks Liberal Attempt to Redraw Wisconsin Maps

We have great news! This week, a three-judge panel granted WILL’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought in an attempt to redraw Wisconsin’s current congressional maps.

Two separate lawsuits seeking to overturn Wisconsin’s congressional maps were filed, and both were assigned to three-judge panels. WILL (and others) intervened in both lawsuits on behalf of a group of voters and moved to dismiss both. Last month, the first panel dismissed one of the suits, and yesterday the second panel dismissed the other.

WILL Deputy Counsel, Lucas Vebber, stated, “The three-judge panel got it right. This is a victory for the rule of law in our state. WILL is proud to have represented our clients in this case and will continue to work to uphold our constitutional separation of powers.”

WILL Hosts 3rd Annual School Board Summit!

Last week, WILL held our 3rd annual School Board Summit which hosted educators from across Wisconsin, including school board members from more than 30 districts, along with superintendents, senior administrators, and charter and private school leaders.

The School Board Summit is part of WILL’s Restoring American Education Project.

Panels and break out rooms highlighted key legal and policy issues facing schools, including a WILL Legal Update, First Amendment challenges, student behavior, and the growing role of technology in the classroom.

This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Cade Brumley, the Louisiana State Superintendent of Education. Dr. Brumley spoke on how, since 2020, he has helped lead Louisiana from near the bottom of national educational rankings to one of the fastest-improving states in the nation.

WILL Sues to Block Unconstitutional Voting Law

On behalf of Americans for Citizen Voting (ACV), WILL filed a lawsuit seeking an emergency order blocking Wisconsin’s new law restricting who can circulate nomination papers. The law was recently signed by Governor Tony Evers.

Act 126 restricts who can circulate nomination papers, making it harder for candidates to qualify for the ballot during the current nomination period, which is open now and runs through June 1, 2026. If allowed to stand, the law sets a precedent for broader regulation of political speech, campaign activity, and grassroots advocacy.

WILL Vice President and Deputy Counsel, Daniel Lennington, said, “Principles matter far more than politics. Lawmakers shouldn’t abuse constitutional rights in search of short-term political results. This law is clearly unconstitutional: the First Amendment doesn’t stop at the state line.”
