John —
Eighty five years ago today, the Social Security Act was signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide federal assistance for older, unemployed, and vulnerable Americans. During our country’s worst economic crisis, FDR acted boldly to protect our seniors. To this day, millions of senior citizens and Americans with disabilities depend on their Social Security benefits for their livelihood.
John, we’re living through a similar economic crisis, but without the leadership and boldness this moment demands. In fact, at a time when Americans are anxious about the virus and losing their jobs, Donald Trump is threatening to defund Social Security through illegal executive orders.
It is especially cruel for Republicans to target Seniors’ safety net in the middle of a pandemic. On the anniversary of the Social Security Act, will you donate $8.50 to make sure we defend Social Security and make Donald Trump a one-term president?
We deserve to live in a country where the most vulnerable can live with dignity and security.
We deserve real leadership from our President and the federal government -- especially as thousands of Americans die every week thanks to Trump’s failed leadership.
We need Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the White House. With your help, we’ll send Donald Trump packing and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.
Thank you for being with us,
Rusty
